Remote Social Media Manager Job – WSI Web Marketing

Are you an experienced social media professional looking for a full-time remote job in South Africa? WSI is hiring a Social Media Manager to take ownership of day-to-day social media activity across a portfolio of client accounts.

This permanent role offers a gross salary of up to R20,000 per month, depending on experience. The successful candidate will work remotely and manage social media content, scheduling, community engagement and digital marketing tasks for multiple South African brands.

About the Social Media Manager Role

WSI is looking for an experienced and proactive Social Media Manager with at least two years of practical social media experience.

This is not a trainee or internship position. While the successful candidate will receive training on the agency’s clients, systems and processes, they should already be comfortable managing social media accounts independently.

The role involves working across multiple client accounts, planning content, writing social media copy, publishing posts and monitoring customer interactions throughout the day.

A significant part of WSI’s client portfolio is in the automotive sector. An interest in vehicles and strong attention to visual accuracy will therefore be an advantage.

About WSI

WSI is a boutique digital marketing agency based in Cape Town. The agency works with South African brands across social media, paid media, websites and SEO.

A significant portion of its client portfolio is in the automotive industry, including vehicle brands and dealerships.

Social Media Manager Responsibilities

The successful candidate will take ownership of day-to-day social media activity across multiple client accounts.

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing social media activity for multiple clients
  • Planning and maintaining monthly content calendars
  • Monitoring comments, messages, reviews and other social media interactions
  • Responding to customer enquiries and escalating complaints or sensitive issues when necessary
  • Managing monitoring alerts and queues independently
  • Scheduling and publishing approved content
  • Checking that scheduled posts have published correctly
  • Writing captions, hooks and calls to action for posts, videos and reels
  • Creating and adapting social media graphics using Canva
  • Repurposing existing content for different social media formats
  • Using ChatGPT and other AI tools for research, ideation, copy, imagery and video
  • Reviewing and improving AI-generated content before it is published
  • Tracking content, approvals and outstanding tasks using Asana and Google Sheets
  • Assisting with digital marketing quality checks

Automotive Content and Visual Accuracy

A large proportion of this position involves creating and managing content for automotive brands and dealerships.

Candidates with a genuine interest in vehicles may have an advantage. However, WSI also wants someone with a sharp visual eye who is willing to learn about different vehicle models and derivatives.

The company increasingly uses AI-assisted creative tools, but AI-generated vehicle imagery can contain inaccuracies. These may include incorrect wheels, grilles, headlights, badges, trim details, body styling or vehicle derivatives.

The Social Media Manager will need to identify these inaccuracies and ensure visual content is checked before it is approved and published.

Requirements

To be considered for the role, applicants should have:

  • At least two years of practical social media experience
  • Excellent written English, grammar and proofreading skills
  • Strong social media copywriting skills
  • Experience managing multiple social media accounts or clients
  • Strong knowledge of Facebook, Instagram and TikTok
  • Working knowledge of LinkedIn and Google Business Profile
  • Experience using social media management and scheduling platforms
  • Strong Canva skills
  • A good visual eye and excellent attention to detail
  • Confidence using ChatGPT and other AI tools
  • Strong organisation and time management skills
  • The ability to work independently in a remote environment
  • Experience using Asana, Google Workspace or similar tools

Previous agency experience is advantageous.

An interest in vehicles and the automotive industry is also considered a strong advantage.

Who Will Do Well in This Role?

This role is suited to someone who takes ownership of their work and does not need to be constantly reminded about tasks that require attention.

The ideal candidate should be able to balance creative responsibilities with operational work, manage multiple client brands and switch between projects without compromising quality.

Strong judgement is also important. The successful candidate should know when they can make a decision independently and when an issue needs to be escalated.

Ultimately, WSI is looking for someone who can become a trusted owner of its day-to-day social media function.

Selection Process

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to complete a live practical assessment.

The assessment will cover areas including social media copywriting, community management, visual quality checking and attention to detail.

Candidates will be encouraged to use ChatGPT, Canva and other AI tools they normally use in their work.

The assessment is designed to evaluate how candidates use these tools, review their output and apply their own judgement rather than simply accepting AI-generated content without checking it.

The assessment will take place through a video call with screen sharing.
