Job Overview

Bethel Publishing House South Africa is seeking a talented Web Developer to lead the design, development, and maintenance of its digital platforms and online systems.

This monthly contract position offers the opportunity to oversee both the creation of new web solutions and the ongoing management, optimisation, and support of existing websites and digital assets, ensuring a seamless and engaging online experience for users.

Core Responsibilities

Website Development (South Africa Branch)

  • Design, develop, and launch the official Bethel Publishing House South Africa website.
  • Create a modern, professional, and mobile-responsive user experience across all devices.
  • Develop well-structured web pages that effectively showcase publishing services, book offerings, and customer enquiry channels.

Book & Author Pages

  • Build dedicated landing pages for individual publishing titles and authors.
  • Develop conversion-focused pages designed to drive book sales, enquiries, and reader engagement.
  • Ensure all book-related pages maintain a professional appearance, seamless functionality, and user-friendly navigation.

Online Store Development

  • Develop and manage a fully functional online bookstore for Bethel Publishing House.
  • Optimise the customer journey to provide a smooth and efficient browsing and purchasing experience.
  • Organise book catalogues, categories, and product listings for easy accessibility and navigation.

Payment Gateway Integration

  • Implement and configure secure South African payment solutions, including PayFast and Ozow.
  • Ensure reliable payment processing and a seamless checkout experience for customers.
  • Maintain secure transaction systems that align with industry best practices.

Business Email Configuration

  • Set up and manage professional business email accounts linked to the organisation’s domain.
  • Integrate email systems with website contact forms and communication channels.
  • Ensure consistent email functionality, reliability, and deliverability across all platforms.

Website Maintenance & Support

  • Provide ongoing maintenance and support for the South African branch website and related digital platforms.
  • Monitor website performance, resolve technical issues, and implement bug fixes as required.
  • Update website content, enhance functionality, and ensure optimal uptime and system performance through continuous improvements.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be a skilled and experienced web development professional with a strong understanding of modern website technologies, digital commerce, and online business operations.

Key attributes and qualifications include:

  • Proven experience in web development, including platforms such as WordPress, Webflow, Shopify, or custom-built solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of e-commerce systems, online stores, and digital payment gateway integrations.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, manage, and maintain multiple business websites simultaneously.
  • Experience with domain registration, website hosting, DNS configuration, and related technical infrastructure.
  • Excellent organisational skills with a structured, detail-oriented approach to project delivery.
  • A dependable and self-motivated work ethic, with the ability to work independently and manage responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a commitment to delivering high-quality, user-focused digital experiences.

Skills & Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in web development, supported by a portfolio showcasing completed projects and technical capabilities.
  • Proven ability to design, develop, and manage comprehensive business websites and fully functional e-commerce platforms.
  • Hands-on experience integrating and configuring online payment solutions, including platforms such as PayFast, Ozow, and similar payment gateways.
  • Strong understanding of domain registration, DNS management, website hosting, and professional email setup and configuration.
  • Access to a personal laptop or workstation, along with a reliable high-speed internet connection suitable for remote work.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote environment while managing workloads, prioritising tasks, and consistently meeting project deadlines.
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality digital solutions.

Work Structure

  • This position is offered as a monthly contract role, with compensation based on ongoing responsibilities rather than per-project or retainer-based billing arrangements.
  • The role is fully remote, with preference given to candidates based in South Africa.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for both continuous website development and ongoing maintenance across the organisation’s digital platforms.
  • Work will be delivered in accordance with agreed project priorities, timelines, and performance expectations.

Compensation

  • The position offers a fixed monthly remuneration of R20,000 per month.

Company-Provided Resources

The following costs and services will be covered directly by the company and will not be deducted from the contractor’s monthly payment:

  • Domain registration and renewal fees
  • Website hosting expenses
  • Payment gateway transaction and service fees
  • Approved third-party software licences, tools, and subscription costs

The Web Developer will be responsible solely for the technical implementation, maintenance, and delivery of assigned digital projects and solutions.
