Job Overview

The company seeks a talented recent graduate or junior professional eager to develop skills in AI-powered software engineering. The role begins with an intensive, hands-on training programme focused on practical AI integration, followed by real-world experience in live projects. Candidates will be expected to maintain a strong understanding of the systems they build while learning to code efficiently and accurately using AI technologies.
Core responsibilities include developing SaaS-style tools and customer-facing e-commerce websites, primarily using PHP, with some Python and JavaScript/TypeScript. The team’s mission is to create scalable tools that deliver rich, personalised product information for digital platforms.
The ideal applicant is technically capable, adaptable, and eager to expand their understanding beyond software — including how businesses and teams operate as a whole. This role involves collaboration with senior leadership, including the CEO, as well as cross-functional interaction with technical, data, and operational teams.
The company follows a hybrid working model, with offices based in Woodstock, Cape Town, while also supporting flexible work arrangements.
Core Responsibilities
- Engage in backend and full-stack development, leveraging AI tools to produce high-quality code in Node/React and/or PHP, depending on project requirements.
- Implement and maintain robust automated testing, linting, and validation processes to ensure that code is reliable, efficient, and ready for rapid deployment.
- Contribute to the design and creation of internal SaaS-style platforms that streamline e-commerce operations, including product data management, pricing, stock replenishment, and customer personalisation.
- Integrate internal systems with external platforms to accelerate the rollout of new features and capabilities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams across the organisation to identify and implement opportunities for process optimisation and innovation.
- Actively participate in technical discussions, sprint planning, and team meetings, contributing ideas and insights to enhance project outcomes.
Skills & Requirements
- A relevant bachelor’s degree or higher from a reputable university, supported by hands-on experience gained through side projects. Candidates with substantial practical experience in a structured professional environment may also be considered in place of formal qualifications.
- Demonstrated proficiency in software development, whether through academic work, professional experience, or independently driven personal projects.
- Evident curiosity and practical experimentation with AI tools and technologies.
- Familiarity with PHP and JavaScript is highly advantageous.
- Prior exposure to e-commerce systems or online retail environments will be considered a strong asset.
