Job Overview
The Web Developer oversees the design, development, maintenance, security, and performance of company and client websites. This role ensures all websites are stable, secure, user-friendly, and fully aligned with business objectives and regulatory compliance standards.
Core Responsibilities
- Designs, develops, maintains, and updates websites using modern web technologies
- Manages website hosting environments to ensure optimal availability and uptime
- Implements responsive, accessible, and cross-browser compatible user experiences
- Executes website migrations across hosting platforms with minimal service disruption
- Enforces security best practices, including HTTPS implementation, access control, and regular patching
- Monitors website performance and promptly troubleshoots and resolves technical issues
- Delivers content updates, copy revisions, and minor design improvements as required
- Registers, configures, and manages websites across search engines and indexing platforms
- Collaborates with project managers, designers, and clients to meet project and business requirements
- Maintains accurate documentation of system changes, configurations, and remediation activities
Security & Compliance Responsibilities
- Adheres to secure coding and system configuration standards
- Applies software updates, patches, and vulnerability remediation measures in a timely manner
- Supports compliance with POPIA, GDPR, and applicable data protection regulations
- Assists with security incident response, investigation, and remediation efforts
- Maintains reliable backup processes and ensures disaster recovery preparedness
Skills & Requirements
Required Skills & Competencies
- Demonstrates strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- Has experience working with content management systems such as WordPress or similar platforms
- Possesses a solid understanding of web hosting environments and DNS configuration
- Is familiar with cloud-based hosting platforms, including AWS, Azure, or comparable local providers
- Shows a foundational understanding of web security principles and best practices
- Effectively troubleshoots and resolves website-related issues in a timely manner
- Communicates clearly and maintains accurate technical documentation
Qualifications & Experience
- Holds a diploma, degree, or relevant certification in Web Development, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or demonstrates equivalent practical experience
- Brings a minimum of two years’ experience in website development and ongoing support
- Has experience supporting live, production-level websites
- Has worked with hosting providers and managed website deployments
Preferred Experience (Advantageous)
- Experience supporting enterprise or corporate-scale websites
- Basic knowledge of search engine optimisation (SEO) and website analytics tools
- Familiarity with recognised security frameworks or standards such as ISO 27001 or NIST principles
- Experience operating within SLA-driven or structured support environments

Additional Information
The position is available on a part-time, temporary-to-permanent, or graduate basis, with an initial contract period of six months. Compensation ranges from R8,000 to R12,000 per month, based on experience and suitability. Working hours are capped at a maximum of 40 hours per week. This is a fully remote role.
