Driving the Technical Innovation Behind AI-Powered Education Products

The role involves contributing to a suite of innovative products that are transforming the education landscape. These include TeachTap, which leverages AI to bring historical figures to life through short-form, TikTok-style learning experiences; TeachTales, which engages learners with personalised, immersive storytelling to deepen comprehension; TimeBack, a learning copilot that integrates seamlessly with existing tools to actively support and guide students; and Athena, which utilises AI-generated videos and assessments to deliver measurable educational outcomes.

The successful candidate will drive the technical evolution of these products, ensuring they remain scalable, maintainable, and resilient over time. In close collaboration with product teams, they will translate high-level concepts into robust technical architectures, resolve complex challenges, and maintain strict quality standards. Their technical decisions will shape product direction and directly influence how thousands of learners experience education.

Core Responsibilities

  • Design, architect, and deliver new product features with a focus on scalability, maintainability, and long-term value.
  • Collaborate closely with product teams to define and refine requirements, guiding technical discussions to ensure alignment with product objectives.
  • Ensure ongoing product stability through effective operations and maintenance, including performance optimisation and proactive issue resolution.
  • Make critical technical design decisions that directly impact user experience, system reliability, and overall product scalability.

What This Role Will Not Involve

  • Frequently shifting between short-term initiatives or chasing trend-driven technologies with little long-term value.
  • Working on internal IT systems or outsourced projects that offer limited or no direct impact on end users.
  • Spending excessive time in unproductive meetings or being burdened with routine infrastructure-related tasks.

Skills & Requirements

  • A minimum of one year of hands-on full-stack development experience, contributing to both front-end and back-end features.
  • At least two years’ experience serving as the lead or primary technical contributor on a SaaS product, with responsibility for guiding key technical decisions.
  • A minimum of four years’ experience building and maintaining commercial SaaS products, rather than internal IT systems or outsourced solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience applying generative AI tools as part of everyday software development workflows.

Working With the Organisation

  • Full-time, long-term position requiring 40 hours per week.

  • Compensation is USD $50 per hour, equivalent to approximately USD $100,000 per year (based on 40 hours per week over 50 weeks).
