About the Role


A global leader in design innovation is seeking a Senior SEO Specialist to take charge of its regional SEO strategy across Africa. This position is based in South Africa and offers a fully remote working model, making it ideal for professionals who want to contribute to international growth while working from their preferred location.

The Senior SEO Specialist will play a pivotal role in expanding organic search visibility across key African markets, with an initial focus on South Africa, Nigeria, and Kenya. The role involves developing and executing SEO strategies tailored to localized audiences, guiding regional teams, and collaborating closely with international SEO leads to ensure alignment with global objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of SEO growth strategies for Africa, aligning regional objectives with global priorities.
  • Build, guide, and manage country-level SEO teams across South Africa, Nigeria, and Kenya, offering mentorship to content and outreach specialists.
  • Collaborate with language managers, PR teams, and growth managers to identify opportunities and drive regional visibility.
  • Establish best practice workflows across teams, ensuring efficiency, consistency, and scalability in SEO initiatives.
  • Partner with international SEO leads, product managers, engineers, designers, and analysts to deliver impactful, growth-driven projects.
  • Support the recruitment, onboarding, coaching, and professional development of SEO team members within Africa.
  • Monitor and report regional and country-specific SEO performance, providing actionable insights.
  • Stay informed of regional trends, search engine updates, and algorithm changes to refine strategies.
  • Encourage collaboration across teams to ensure continuous improvement of Africa’s SEO approach.

Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience in leading SEO initiatives in Africa, either within an agency or an in-house setting.
  • A successful track record of developing and executing SEO strategies in multilingual and multicultural contexts, particularly in Languages Other Than English (LOTE) such as Afrikaans, Zulu, Swahili, Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo, and Xhosa.
  • Strong knowledge of SEO fundamentals, including technical optimisation, content strategy, and link-building.
  • Proficiency with SEO and analytics tools such as Google Analytics, Search Console, SEMrush, Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, and DeepCrawl.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into actionable recommendations.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with cross-functional and international teams in fast-paced environments.
  • Background in optimising workflows and implementing automation for efficiency.
  • Proficiency in Afrikaans or Zulu is an advantage, though business-level English fluency is essential.
