Job Overview
This role involves designing thoughtful solutions within complex and often undefined problem spaces, working closely with a cross-functional team that includes engineers, product managers, and data scientists. The position calls for a recognised and trusted design expert who continuously refines a user-centred approach and applies strong design judgement to every challenge.
The successful candidate will contribute this creativity and strategic thinking within an established, embedded team of Product Designers and UX Writers, with a shared focus on crafting meaningful, high-value user experiences that drive real impact.
Core Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with product managers, developers, data teams, and UX writers to bring features and products to life end to end.
- Conceptualise, wireframe, and design user-friendly experiences and prototypes that solve complex problems in intuitive and engaging ways.
- Translate UX structure into polished UI outputs, aligned with platform-specific requirements and delivered as development-ready designs.
- Advocate for customer needs by clearly articulating the strengths and trade-offs of design solutions, confidently engaging stakeholders and defending well-founded design decisions.
- Build product experiences informed by data and research, including desk and field research, prototyping, user interviews, usability testing, QA, and A/B testing.
- Plan and run experiments to validate ideas, assumptions, and hypotheses.
- Stay current with emerging design trends, tools, and technologies, and actively share knowledge with the wider design team.
- Contribute to the ongoing evolution, maintenance, and adoption of the Matter design system.
- Collaborate within a passionate product-focused team while mentoring and supporting fellow designers through coaching and constructive feedback.
Skills & Requirements
- Proven, end-to-end product design experience across UX and UI for Android, iOS, and web platforms.
- A strong, well-rounded portfolio that clearly demonstrates design thinking, process, and measurable impact.
- Advanced creative problem-solving abilities, with solid skills in interaction design, prototyping, user research, and visual design.
- A genuine passion for design, with a mindset focused on continuous improvement and challenging the status quo.
- Proficiency in leading design and research tools such as Figma, Figma Make, NotebookLM, Sketch, Maze, and Miro, with strong working knowledge of Google Workspace; familiarity with Gemini AI is an advantage.
- Experience working within agile, cross-functional teams, supported by excellent communication skills to confidently present, discuss, and advocate design decisions with developers, copywriters, and product owners.
- Strong understanding and hands-on experience with design systems, including Material Design and Human Interface Design principles.
- Previous exposure to onboarding flows, retention strategies, payments, top-of-funnel experiences, and customer rewards or loyalty programmes would be beneficial.
