Role Overview

The Faculty is seeking experienced and highly qualified First Language English instructors in South Africa for a remote teaching opportunity. This role focuses on delivering advanced English lessons to students whose primary language is English, going beyond basic comprehension and communication. Instruction covers areas such as advanced grammar, critical essay writing, literary analysis, poetry, and linguistics.

The successful candidate will support students in refining their language skills, enhancing their understanding of literature, and developing the analytical and expressive abilities required for high-level academic achievement. This position is well-suited to educators who are passionate about language, enjoy exploring complex texts, and are committed to inspiring students’ creative and intellectual growth.

Skills & Requirements

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in B.Ed (FET) with a focus on English, or a BA in Language Arts, Linguistics, Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
  • Professional, approachable, and warm demeanor.
  • Clear, neutral accent.
  • Previous tutoring or teaching experience is advantageous.

Technical Requirements (Mandatory):

  • Laptop or PC with Intel® Core™ i5, quad-core (4 CPUs), and 8GB RAM.
  • Reliable fibre internet connection with minimum 25 Mbps download/upload (LAN cable connection required).
  • Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) providing 4–5 hours of backup power.
  • Mini UPS to maintain power to the fibre router during outages.
  • Noise-cancelling headset, HD webcam, and a quiet, professional workspace.

About the role

  • Location: Remote (South Africa-based)
  • Learners: Grades 6-12 (Ages 12-18)
  • Curriculum: US curriculum
  • Hours: Shifts would fall between Monday – Thursday: 16:00–01:00 SAST and Friday: 16:00–00:00 SAST
  • Rate: R110 per hour
